Localization fails in predictable ways: literal translations, captions that run too fast, and product names that drift. Here's a workflow that avoids all three.
Start with a glossary
List terms that must never change (product names, feature names, legal phrases) and preferred translations for recurring words. Give it to your agent before anything else.
Adapt, don't translate
Ask for adaptation: the same intent, natural phrasing for the market. Idioms, humour and references should change.
Re-time captions per language
German and French typically run 20–30% longer than English; Japanese and Chinese are shorter on screen but slower to read at large sizes. Split and re-time captions per language instead of reusing English timings.
Check layout
Text that fits in English can overflow in German. Ask for a contact sheet of every frame with on-screen text, per language.
Review with a native speaker
Send a review sheet (timecode, English, adaptation, notes) to a local teammate before publishing.
The Global Localize & Subtitle and Multi-Market Ad Variant Matrix Skills automate most of these steps.
