Halftone and pop-art promo videos: the retro drop format
A comic-print halftone burst, a slammed-down headline and a sticker badge — loud, fun and perfect for product drops. How to write it, keep the badge honest, and render it with AI.

Halftone dots, a stamped headline with a hard shadow, a product sliding in and a round sticker spinning on top: the pop-art look borrows from comic books and old print ads, and it's a natural fit for drops, limited runs and brands with personality. It's loud on purpose — and that makes it stand out in a feed of minimal, beige ads.
When to use it
- Product drops and limited runs — "Friday drop", "Back in stock".
- Streetwear, coffee, snacks and merch — brands where fun beats polish.
- Bold social teasers for launches and collabs.
Skip it for luxury or minimal brands, and for anything that needs long copy.
Structure
- A halftone colour field bursts open from the centre.
- The headline slams down with a drop shadow.
- The product slides up into frame.
- An optional round badge spins in: "Only 200 made".
It runs about five seconds.
Write it
- Headline (two to five words): short and loud. "Friday drop", "New flavour", "Last call".
- Badge (up to four words): a fact that adds urgency or value.
Keep the badge honest
Scarcity sells, which is why "limited" and "only X left" claims are regulated. Under consumer-protection rules such as the EU's Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, falsely claiming a product is available only for a very limited time is a banned practice, and the FTC treats fake scarcity as deceptive. Only put a number on the badge if it's true.
Design tips
- Use a cut-out product PNG — the halftone field should show around it.
- Choose a strong accent: red, cobalt or acid yellow suit the print look.
- In 9:16 the headline sits at the top and the product at the bottom; in 16:9 they sit side by side.
