The notification hook: burn, wipe, roll or shatter your hook on camera
A scroll-stopping opener where the hook appears as a phone notification above the creator's head and they physically destroy it. The four variations, why it works, how to write the line and how to make it from one photo with AI.

One of the most copied openers on Reels and TikTok right now: the creator sits or stands in their usual setting, a phone notification floats above their head with the hook written in it, and then they reach up and destroy it. They burn it with a lighter, scrunch it into a ball, wipe it off a steamed-up lens, or crack it open so a product drops into their hands.
Why it stops the scroll
- It reads in half a second. Everyone recognises a notification banner, so the eye goes straight to the line inside it.
- It breaks the fourth wall. Interface elements aren't supposed to be touchable. The moment a hand grabs one, the brain flags it as wrong and stays to watch.
- The destruction is the payoff. The hook is delivered, then removed, and the screen is clear for the actual content. There's no dead time.
The four variations
| Variation | What happens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Burn | A lighter goes up to the card; it catches fire and burns away to embers. | Bold statements, "stop doing this" hooks |
| Fog | The lens is steamed up; one wipe clears it, notification and all. | Cosy, personal, "things I wish I knew" hooks |
| Roll | The creator holds the card like a strip of paper, rolls it up and tosses it. | Myth-busting, "your X is wrong" hooks |
| Shatter | The product drops out of the card into their hands and the card bursts into fragments. | Launches, restocks, offers |
Writing the line
Keep it to one short sentence, under about 40 characters, so the card stays on one line: "Stop scrolling. This is your sign." "Your hook is too long." "Sold out in 3 hours. It's back." Put the payoff in your next shot, and add a small CTA as the card disappears ("Here's how to fix it", "Restocked · link in bio").
Make it from one photo
You don't need to film it. The UI Break Hook Skill does it from one photo of the creator:
Make two UI break hooks from this photo of me for my Reels: burn "Stop scrolling. This is your sign." and shatter with our jar for "Sold out in 3 hours. It's back." Account name kova.skin.
Your agent adds the notification to the photo with an image model and shows you the still, so you can check the spelling. Then a video model animates the 5-second move, and the CTA and captions are rendered over it in 9:16, 4:5 or 1:1. Each hook costs about $0.43 in Nano Banana 2 and Kling 2.5 Turbo usage, billed to your own API key. See the sample with all four variations.
The card is a neutral frosted notification with a plain icon and your account name, so it works on any platform and doesn't copy any app's logo.
Photos and permission
Use a photo of yourself, of someone who agreed to appear in your ad, or stock whose licence allows it, with clear space above the head where the card can float. The people in our samples are AI-generated, not real people.
FAQ
Can the hook be in another language? Yes. The line is written into the image, so check the spelling on the still before you make the video.
How long is each hook? Five seconds. Cut straight to your content once the card is gone.
Can I chain several hooks? Yes. Put several clips in one file and they play back to back, which is handy for testing which variation performs best.
